What Is Covid 19 Booster

The Covid booster shot is an additional dose of vaccine that the protection provided by the original shots (s) tends to decrease over time. In general, we will get a booster after the initial dose of the immune system starts to decline naturally. The booster is designed to help people maintain their immunity for a long time.

A booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine helps improve our protection against the first two doses of the vaccine. This helps protect us from Covid 19 long term illness.

In simple, it is just another dose of vaccine which you have received. The concept of the booster is to increase protective immunity especially if there is evidence that the defence is declining over time.

According to Dr Shaw, most children are regularly vaccinated with boosters for diseases such as chickenpox, tetanus, measles, mumps and rubella. This series of vaccines, as we call them, is recommended because we need extra doses to get long-lasting protective immunity.

There is also a technical difference between the words “third does” and “Booster”

Benefits Of Covid 19 Booster

Two doses of the covid 19 provide particularly good protection against serious illness. Booster doses will ensure that protection from the first dose is stronger and last longer and will help prevent the spread of the virus. Booster dose increases our protection:

  • Infection with virus that causes covid 19
  • Serious disease
  • Death due to Covid 19
  • The booster will continue to protect us, our loved ones and our community against Covid 19.
  • Booster doses will be free for everyone.

Who Is Eligible For Booster Dose

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) recommends that a booster dose of coronavirus is eligible for:

  • Adults aged 18 years or above.
  • Old adults living in care homes.
  • Frontline health and social care workers.
  • Adults aged 16 years or over with underlying health conditions that put them at high risk of severe coronavirus.
  • Unpaid carers ages 16 years or over.
  • Adults aged 16 years or over who live with someone with a severely weakened immune system.

Why Do We Need Covid 19 Booster

“Current virus is still effective against the type, especially to protect against a serious illness that may require hospitalization or even death. But if the virus develops more and worse, the vaccine can be improved.

Covid 19 booster

“Sometimes most effective vaccine declines over time. Preliminary research on vaccines that uses m RNA to protect us from coronaviruses such as Pfizer and Moderna suggests that they eventually lose their power against infections and serious illnesses, virus type ( such as alpha, beta and delta). Getting a booster can help supercharge the vaccine’s effectiveness.”
